🏆 Victory in Motion: Braelyn Combe Named IE Varsity Girls Athlete of the Year

The Santiago High School junior has been named the IE Varsity Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, and her 2024–25 season was nothing short of legendary.

🥇 A Season of Records and Redemption

Braelyn’s journey began with a national title in the distance medley relay at the Nike Indoor Nationals, where she anchored Santiago’s team to a California indoor record and the 14th-fastest time in U.S. high school history.

But that was just the warm-up.

In the outdoor season, Braelyn:

• Won the CIF State Championship in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:35.64, setting a new Inland Empire record
• Anchored Santiago’s 4×800 relay team to a state title and meet record of 8:49.01
• Ran her final 800 meters in 2:07.44, a time that would’ve placed her third in the open 800

Her coach, Rick Etheridge, called her “one of the most coachable athletes” he’s ever worked with. And it shows—Braelyn executed every race with strategy, heart, and grit.
